8. A Nightmare on Elm Street III: Dream Warriors
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PlwfVhY_-Q The original A Nightmare on Elm Street is, of course, a classic of horror cinema, though the second film, Freddy's Revenge, caused the franchise to instantly fall victim to sequelitis, as everything great about the first film - its visual inventiveness, it's playfully black humour - was diluted in favour of a far more generic, joyless experience. While logic usually dictates that the third entry in an ailing series is even worse, Dream Warriors benefited from Wes Craven returning to co-write the script, as well as the appearances of likeable young actors such as Laurence Fishburne and Patricia Arquette. It is in the third Elm Street that the series really started to embrace campy humour, with Freddy becoming more a character to root for, though as a result he is naturally less scary. After the painfully rote second film, it made for one of the very best Elm Street sequels, though as you'll see soon enough, not the best...
