10 Unmade Guillermo Del Toro Projects That Look Awesome

2. Justice League Dark

The DC Cinematic Universe could do with a dose of the weird. As it stand, Warner Bros. look to be trying to beat their competitors at Marvel at their own game, building up a shared fictional world that centres on big, Avengers-style Justice League films punctuated by solo films. But just pretend, for a moment, that they didn't do that. Imagine that they tried something different. Like, for instance, getting Guillermo del Toro to work on an alternate Justice League film which wouldn't have been a bright, colourful superhero team-up. Instead, del Toro's Dark Universe - later Justice League Dark - would involve the comic publisher's strange, scary and supernatural characters teaming up, possibly to deal with a similarly dark, occult threat. Not so much a summer blockbuster, more a continuation of what he'd done with Hellboy, with pulp thrills and chills side-by-side. Del Toro worked on a treatment for years, including iconic characters like Swamp Thing and John Constantine. While it's still allegedly on the cards, only now a part of the DC Extended Universe, del Toro is no longer attached, meaning any version we do ultimately get won't have quite the same allure.
