10 Unmade Tim Burton Films That Would Have Been Awesome
3. The Fall Of The House of Usher
Tim Burton is often labelled the Master of the Macabre so who better to bring the work of the original owner of the title, Edgar Allan Poe, back from the dead?
In 1994, Burton planned to make an updated version of the classic Poe story The Fall Of The House Of Usher which sees a man driven mad by the memory of his dead sister (or is she?). The gothic tale would have been juxtaposed with the choice of setting: sunny Burbank in California.
Poe's influence on Burton can be seen right the way back to his early short film Vincent, narrated by the star of the 1960 version of the film, Vincent Price. Making the movie could have been an ode to his close friend (who died in 1993) and might have been a similar sort of Hammer Horror throwback to Sleepy Hollow. It's a shame this one never made its way back out the coffin.
