10 Up & Coming Directors To Watch Out For

8. Rian Johnson

rian-johnson1 Rian Johnson has established himself as one of the more original new directors out there and it seems to be only a matter of time before he gets his hands on a major work. Johnson's debut feature, 2005's Brick starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has become a bit of a cult classic and was ranked in Empire Magazine's 2008 list of 500 best films. His second film, 2008's The Brothers Bloom, received more mixed reviews but was again praised for its originality and daring. Many saw Johnson's 2012 film Looper as a chance for him to become a more well known filmmaker but while the film performed well both critically and financially, being considered by many as one of the years best movies, it didn't really make much of an impact on the mainstream moviegoing public. Known for his ingenuity, edgy style, and ability to write and direct, its only a matter of time before Johnson becomes one of the biggest directors out there. Filmography: Brick (2005), The Brothers Bloom (2008), Looper (2012)

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
