1. Batman V Superman : Dawn Of Justice (March 25, 2016)
Spare a though for poor Henry Cavill; after just missing out on the opportunity to play both James Bond and Batman, the actor finally got his chance at playing one of cinema's most iconic characters in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot. Instead of placing him front and center in his own franchise, Cavill's Man of Steel now finds himself as a supporting player in what has turned into the rapid expansion of the DC Cinematic Universe. While there is every chance that Batman V Superman could actually turn out to be great, there is a lot more reason to be skeptical of the project. While Zack Snyder has proven himself to be one of the best visual directors working in the business, his biggest shortcomings are in the plot and character departments. With a Justice League movie set to immediately follow Batman V Superman, the movie will require a massive amount of plot and exposition to establish a shared universe in just one movie. As well as reintegrating Batman into the fold in the form of Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Ray Fisher's Cyborg also need to be introduced, along with the possible involvement of Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Given how little Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane had to work with in Man of Steel, its unlikely they will be given the chance to make much of an impact in the sequel either. That's without even mentioning Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons' Alfred as well as unspecified roles for Scoot McNairy, Callan Mulvey and Holly Hunter. With that many characters in the mix and the story needing to stand on its own merits as well as set up the Justice League movie, the duo of Snyder and David Goyer don't instill much confidence. Sure, the action scenes are likely to be jaw-dropping but Batman V Superman could turn out to be yet another comic book movie that is all style and no substance, even if it is likely to be one of the year's biggest hits.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
