10 Upcoming Blockbusters That Will Sink Faster Than The Titanic

10. The Guardians of the Galaxy

The Release Date: August 1st, 2014 What It€™s Got Going For It: With Avengers Assemble now having secured its place as the third best-selling film of all time, there€™s no doubt that the Marvel Cinematic Universe carries some weight in terms of future box office successes. Guardians Of The Galaxy will introduce Thanos, the villain in the shadows introduced in Avengers€™ credits sequence who looks to play a much bigger role in the 2015 follow-up. Why It€™s Already Doomed: Star-Lord. Gamora. Drax The Destroyer. Groot. Rocket Racoon. Do these names really sound like potential candidates for the most memorable icons in film history, or rather film future in this case? I€™m not saying that it€™s impossible for bizarre concepts to be taken seriously by viewers- dreams within dreams, changing fate via a map of NYC, we€™ve seen it all recently- but the idea of a completely alien team of super-heroes fighting an intergalactic menace just seems difficult to swallow for modern audiences used to an empathetic protagonist. Perhaps the rumours of a human general swept into the chaos of a sci-fi war are true, yet it€™s hard to shake the feeling that the piece will be dominated by the titular Guardians team, which will mean we€™ve still got a racoon as one of the main characters. Thanos will undoubtedly be a big draw for long-term fans, I€™m not trying to deny that, but the likelihood that the general majority of viewers will just wait out an explanation of the villain€™s role in Avengers 2 just as they did with Loki (a real shame, as his original appearance in Thor contributed greatly to that brilliant Asgardian romp) seems far greater than the alternative. Unless the makers of Guardians Of The Galaxy can prove to us it€™s not another Transformers, hell-bent on providing special effects over story, they€™ve got a hell of a job trying to convince the wider public to check it out when the second entries in the Captain America, X-Men: First Class and Amazing Spider-Man series are also set for release by Marvel that year and Justice League is even reported to be on its way around the same time. What are your thoughts on the list? Do these ten movies seem like potential duds to you, or is there hope for each and every one of them? As always, head below to the comments, I€™ll be interested to hear your thoughts on the matter!
