10 Upcoming Comic Book Films (And Who Should Direct Them)

One of the more interesting pieces of news to emerge from the halls of SDCC 2017 was that Noah Hawley - of Fargo and Legion fame - had been working on a Doctor Doom solo movie for Fox.

Admittedly, it is a tad frustrating to see Fox cling onto the rights for the Fantastic Four, especially since the MCU is crying out for key characters in the FF mythos. But hey, Hawley's involvement is cause for excitement, or - at the very least - tempered optimism.

Fox are yet to announce a director for the project, what with the film being in the earliest stages of pre-production, but certain names must be floating around. With Hawley's involvement, it's clear that there's at least an air of quality surrounding the film, and - unlikely as it may be - one would hope that Fox would be targeting some equally formidable talent, like Sam Mendes.

Mendes will, of course, be known for helming both Skyfall and Spectre, and while Doom would look like something of a demotion for the director, adding a layer of political intrigue and personal drama to the character's story is something he'd be able to convey with ease. It would have to be atmospheric too, and with his previous work on Road to Perdition having satisfied in that department, it becomes increasingly clear that he'd do Victor well, especially if it took place in the fictional setting of Latveria.

In any case, one can only hope that the film will offer a more authentic depiction of the green-clad dictator than what has previously been the case. Mendes, while an unlikely pick, would bring that authenticity and make it work.
