8. Malekith the Accursed - Thor: The Dark World
Thor: The Dark World is set a year after the events of The Avengers, and sees the Asgardian facing off against a primeval race, the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, led by Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston). Malekith wishes to plunge not just the world, but the entire universe into darkness, and though plot details remain scarce even with a fairly non-committal trailer released, it seems that Thor and Jane Foster will need to unite to prevent Malekith's plan. Malekith has a litany of generic superhero abilities, such as superior intelligent, strength, speed and so on, but he can also use magic to teleport, project energy, fly and cast illusions, making him a more devious foe even than Loki, who Thor vanquished in the prior film (and again in The Avengers). Amusingly, Malekith's main vulnerability is iron, which cancels out his spells; oh, what a shame it is that Tony Stark destroyed all those suits at the end of Iron Man 3...
