6. The Sinister Six
Marvel ComicsGiven Sony's plan to render a film based around supervillain team The Sinister Six as a direct spin-off of their Amazing Spider-Man flicks, it seems unlikely that Spider-Man himself - as in, Peter Parker - will make an appearance. So what is this movie going to be, then? A film about Harry Osbourne going around recruiting villains? Maybe. But then what's the appeal in something like that? What's the use in rendering a movie about villains if there's no hero for them to fight? Granted, we don't know the specs yet, but the idea does seem somewhat redundant. Likely, this falls in line as one of Sony's attempts to building an expanded universe of their own with the few Marvel characters they have in their possession - i.e. those featured in the Spider-Man series. You can get their thinking somewhat, but it also showcases the fact that the studio haven't learnt from the mistakes of Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2: too many villains do, indeed, spoil the broth. Sure, there's a good chance that this could be unique and interesting, but going on the studio's track record thus far, we have very little hope for the outcome.
