10 Upcoming Comic Book Movies We Don't Really Need

7. Namor The Sub-Mariner

Marvel ComicsMarvel ComicsBelieve it or not, but Namor the Sub-Mariner was the first comic book superhero to possess the power of flight, and was also the first ever Marvel superhero. This may have led some filmmakers to believe that we therefore need a movie adaptation focused on this character, when - in actuality - the chances of anybody pulling this off without making it laughable seem slight. And that's why, ultimately, we could probably do without it - the fact that the property itself doesn't really fit in with the sorts of superhero flicks that are shipping into theatres nowadays. That's not to say that it would be entirely impossible to do justice to this character, but there are some inherent problems with adapting Namor; firstly, he's an anti-hero. Characters who fall into such vague territories often prove themselves to be hard work. Secondly, the concept - that Namor is "the mutant son of a human sea captain and a princess of the mythical undersea kingdom of Atlantis" also makes things difficult. Lastly, it's tough to know what to do with Namor in the MCU context. He doesn't naturally fit inside it, but creating a standalone movie outside of the established universe likely won't pull in the punters either.
