10 Upcoming Comic Book Movies That Are Already Doomed To Fail

10. The Avengers 2 (2015)

The only mark of The Avengers sequel's success that will matter, at the end of the day is in relation to the first movie. The expectations heaped on to the second film - especially if the so-called Phase 2 Marvel campaign of films goes well - will be almost crippling for Joss Whedon (if he does indeed direct), especially given his initial assertion that he wanted the film to be "smaller. More personal. More painful. By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself." If Whedon was to get his way, that would involve putting the skids on what would be a juggernaut franchise by then - fans will want to see exactly what they got with the first film - a culmination of talents and characters in a grand story arc that felt appropriately big enough to accommodate them all. In fact, they will probably want that times 2, given that The Avengers 2 will face the usual problems a first sequel invariably faces - and Whedon clearly doesn't want that to happen. The problem here is whether to persist with Whedon's vision, and potentially upset the fans who will want the biggest tent-pole movie of all time, or aim for the fans' desires and run the risk of not only losing Whedon, but also creating something as messy and overblown as Spiderman 3. Either way, it is a monumental challenge. What do you think? Am I way off the mark? Which upcoming comic book movies do you think are already doomed to fail? Share your thoughts below.
