9. Red 2 (2013)
Why is this even being made? I don't particularly remember anyone clamouring for a second Red film, even if the first one was disposably entertaining without really asking too much of its audience. That original never quite managed to entirely capture the cumulative charisma of its cast, and while it was good to see them in such roles, they could have been used a lot better - luckily the film never really traded too hard on the image of the stars being old dogs still able to do their old tricks. Unfortunately, I suspect that won't be the case for the second film, and the gimmick will be pushed a little too insistently. The RED mini-series was great, and it's not surprising they were able to make a passable film from it as a source, but the idea that they have written a whole new script for the sequel starts those alarm bells ringing again. As does the inclusion of Bruce Willis, who didn't really look interested in the first film, and who seems to float his way through films these days, untested and unengaged, offering stagnant performances that do nothing for his reputation. Director Dean Parisot might have made the excellent Galaxy Quest, but he also, more recently made Fun With Dick And Jane - and I just can't quite forgive him for that.
