Right, the big caveat here is that this picture that has been loitering in development hell for several years now. But still, if a Bride of Frankenstein headlined by Angelina Jolie can somehow be pulled off, it could make for one of the great modern-day monster movies.

Oscar winner Jolie has been associated with a Bride of Frankenstein remake dating back to 2017. Then, Beauty and the Beast's Bill Condon was to direct from a screenplay from David Koepp (Jurassic Park), with the film to be part of the shared Dark Universe realm that was intended to be kickstarted by Tom Cruise's The Mummy.

When The Mummy bombed, Universal axed plans for a new shared world of monsters, although Bride of Frankenstein is one film that still remained - and remains - on the table.

Jolie taking on the Bride moniker is a wonderful piece of casting, and adding extra oomph to this offering was Javier Bardem - another Academy Award winner - cast as Frankenstein's monster.

Director Bill Condon has long departed Bride of Frankenstein, but David Koepp was brought back into the fold last year to continue putting together a screenplay for a take on the Bride that has themes of abuse, control and the #MeToo movement throughout it.
