To date, there have been four actors to bring Gomez Addams to live-action life, and this week saw a fifth name added to that list.

In a stroke of genius, Netflix's upcoming Wednesday series has moved to cast the brilliant Luis Guzmán as the patriarch of the Addams Family.

Previously, John Astin played a hokey Gomez in the original The Addams Family show, the uber-suave Raul Julia charmed as the character in the two movies of the early '90s, Tim Curry took over for TV movie Addams Family Reunion, and Glenn Taranto starred in the doomed The New Addams Family TV series of 1999.

Now, renown scene-stealer Guzmán (Boogie Nights, Magnolia, The Limey, Punch-Drunk Love, Narcos) has signed up to star in the eight-part Wednesday show that's being marketed as a coming-of-age tale for Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams. Adding further on the 'exciting casting news' element of Wednesday, the news of Guzmán's involvement was quickly followed up by the announcement that Academy Award winner Catherine Zeta-Jones will be starring as Gomez's wife Morticia.

With Tim Burton on board to direct, and Smallville's Alfred Gough and Miles Millar serving as showrunners, there's definitely plenty to be excited about right now where it pertains to Wednesday.
