10 Upcoming Horror Movies That Aren't What You Think

3. It's An R-Rated Comedy - Anaconda

Considering the audience appetite for big, frothy monster movies, it's honestly surprising that Hollywood waited almost an entire three decades to reboot giant snake franchise Anaconda, which is set to release this Christmas.

But if you're expecting a straight-laced reimagining of the original action-adventure horror movie, think again.

This new take is actually going the horror-comedy approach, which is a less surprising outcome once you learn that Jack Black and Paul Rudd are starring in it. Additionally, it's been written and directed by Tom Gormican, best known for the riotous Nicolas Cage comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

That said, if this leads you to expect an altogether less-violent outing than the 1996 movie - which, it should be pointed out, was PG-13 - that doesn't seem to be the case. Considering the colourful language used in Black and Rudd's teaser message for the film, an R-rating seems all-but-inevitable, in turn ensuring that Anaconda 2025 will likely be an over-the-top, blood-soaked thrill ride in the vein of something like Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3D.

In the very least, it's clearly not being designed as a tepid theme park ride-esque blockbuster aimed at younger viewers.
