10 Upcoming Horror Movies That Will Scare The S**t Out Of You
1. Crimes Of The Future
Director: David Cronenberg
Starring: Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart
Release Date: 2 June 2022
David Cronenberg, the master of body horror, returns as a writer and director. Though it shares its name with a movie that Cronenberg wrote, directed, and produced in 1970, Crimes of The Future is not a remake.
In a reality where humans are required to transform and mutate to ensure their survival in a synthetic environment, famed performance artists Saul Tensor and Caprice capitalise on the situation to make avant-garde performance art. The famed celebrity artists base their shows around Saul's ability to metamorphose and remove new organs live on stage. This soon attracts curious and critical eyes.
The basis for Crimes of The Future goes back to an abandoned Cronenberg project from 2003, titled Painkillers. During this period, he shared the nexus for such a movie with Variety:
“I’ve been interested in performance artists and the whole subculture since a fellow student of mine (at the U of Toronto) wrote a short story about a man who did surgery as a performance, literally cutting off his own hand […] I remember reading that story and being incredibly shocked and impressed by it.”
