7. Child's Play
The Child's Play franchise is really trying to become relevant again, it seems, given that a fifth sequel, Curse of Chucky, has already finished production and is aiming for a straight-to-video release this year, and so it seems slightly bizarre that the producers are already planning a reboot
as well. Given how the series descended into unintentional comedy by its third entry and then intentional comedy by its fourth, the producers reportedly want to return Chucky to his more sadistic, genuinely horrific roots, even if the nature of the story - a serial killer imparting his soul into a children's doll - is pretty difficult to take seriously. Even though the inimitable Brad Dourif will be lending his vocal talents to the project, is there really a place in cinema for Chucky anymore? The series has been so played out, and straight-up horror depicting a doll will probably not be bought by today's more hardened audiences. Expect the unintentionally hilarious laugh riot of the year when it finally shows up.
