10 Upcoming Movie Reboots Doomed To Fail

8. Death Wish

The 1974 Charles Bronson-starring revenge classic Death Wish is a right-winger's wet dream and, off the back of its enormous success, spawned four sequels of increasingly low quality. The idea of a reboot has been around for a few years now, with Sylvester Stallone considering both directing and starring, before making the smart decision to drop out. Now, MGM/Paramount are courting Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin' Aces, The A-Team, The Grey) to take a crack, and the rumour mill suggests that it will star his two-time collaborator Liam Neeson. Now, there is a chance this could actually be worthy; Joe Carnahan is a better director than Michael Winner ever was, and Liam Neeson is a better actor than Charles Bronson ever was, plus the original film completely disregarded the nuances of the source material in favour of a more simplistic, populist film. It's just difficult to see how a reboot could come together, given that it won't be easy to make this take "dark and gritty" given that the original film is itself already pretty grim. Sure, it would probably make a ton of cash off the back of the Taken fanbase, but would it be any good? Probably not.
