10 Upcoming Movie Reboots Literally Nobody Is Asking For
1. Cliffhanger
There's a reason why movies set in the mountains have never been one of action cinema's most popular sub-genres, because few could hope to match the precedent set by Sylvester Stallone's logic and gravity-defying classic Cliffhanger. Remember Chris O'Donnell's Vertical Limit? Exactly.
A sequel to the movie was once in the works, that would have seen Stallone's Gabe Walker battling terrorists who had taken over the Hoover Dam for reasons that most likely wouldn't have made any sense, but it never became anything more than an idea.
However, over 20 years after the original a female-driven reboot was announced, with Fast and Furious producer Neil Moritz attached and Ana Lily Armirpour, the director of the self-proclaimed 'black-and-white Iranian vampire spaghetti Western' A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night behind the camera, which is a unique combination of talent to put it lightly.
Jason Momoa was said to be in talks for a key role, but the whole idea of a Cliffhanger reboot seems entirely unnecessary, especially when many fans of the original will instantly be dismissing the gender-swap angle as a gimmick.
Recent Academy Award-winning documentary Free Solo showed how gripping the niche world of rock climbing can be, so surely there's more than one good idea kicking around for an action movie set in the same space that doesn't have to rely on pre-existing material for inspiration.
