10 Upcoming Movie Reboots Literally Nobody Is Asking For
2. Power Rangers
2017's Power Rangers arrived about half a decade too late to the party for adaptations of inherently silly properties that get treated with the utmost respect, with only Elizabeth Banks appearing to get the memo that she was starring in a reboot of one of the goofiest TV shows ever made, and pitching her performance as such.
The studio brashly announced that they had plans to make five or six movies based on these characters, but ended up looking like complete idiots when the $105m movie failed to even crack the $150m barrier at the box office. That being said, Power Rangers ended up making a lot more money from merchandise sales than it did from theaters, and that kind of earning potential virtually guaranteed that they would be back in the near future.
Following Hasbro's acquisition of the brand in a half-billion dollar deal, another Power Rangers reboot was officially announced, less than eighteen months after the last one had hit theaters, bombed hard and been slated by both fans and critics. The latest iteration is said to involve time-travel and be set in the 1990s, which is conveniently when the TV show was at the apex of its popularity, as Hollywood continues to chase down that increasingly-lucrative nostalgia money despite recent history showing a clear lack of interest in the franchise.
