10 Upcoming Movie Reboots Literally Nobody Is Asking For
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first made their big screen debut 30 years ago, and despite being the subjects of four live-action movies and one feature-length animation since then, their first appearance has arguably never been bettered.
Not that it's a critically-acclaimed masterpiece by any means, but it does hold a certain affection among fans, and none of the subsequent outings over the next three decades managed to reach what wasn't even a particularly high bar to begin with.
The Michael Bay-produced reboot in 2014 turned the title characters into terrifying-looking hulking monsters, but the all-powerful nostalgia market helped push it towards a box office total of almost half a billion dollars. However, sequel Out of the Shadows saw the once-resurgent franchise fall off the edge of a cliff, with takings down by $250m just two years later and the main cast's three-picture deals canceled shortly after.
It appears as though the only person that didn't lose their job over Out of the Shadows' failure was Michael Bay, with his Platinum Dunes company set to produce the latest reboot that was announced in the summer of 2018. They've already gone down the dark and gritty route already, so who knows what the studio has planned for their next incarnation.
A less horrific appearance would be a good start, but based on the performance of the last movie audiences already seem to have made their opinions known on how they feel about Turtles reboots.
