10 Upcoming Movie Reboots That Might Actually Work

If you haven't heard of The Toxic Avenger, you're missing out.

The 1984 dark comedy superhero cult classic was produced by B-movie maestro Lloyd Kaufman and his Troma Entertainment label, revolving around weedy janitor Melvin (Mark Torgl), who is transformed into an ultra-strong mutant after falling into a drum of toxic waste.

The series' last entry was its fourth film in 2000, the surprisingly hilarious Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV, and though various stalled attempts at a reboot have been made over the last decade, in 2018 it was announced that Legendary Pictures had acquired the rights to the IP.

In 2019, Macon Blair (I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore) was confirmed as both writer and director, with Peter Dinklage set to star, while Kevin Bacon will play the villain, and the supporting cast will include Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne and Sarah Niles.

As difficult as it'll be to replicate the grimy, low-fi charms of the original movie, there's way too much talent attached to this reboot not to be excited for the end result.
