2. Willy Wonka
Johnny Depp's creepy performance in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory proved something most people already suspected: Gene Wilder's fabulous Willy Wonka is hard to live up to. The announcement of a reboot has been making its rounds on the internet for a while now, and you have every right to feel wary.
Why It Might Work:
It turns out that the reboot won't be a retelling of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or a first time telling of its sequel Charlie and the Glass Elevator, instead it will be an entirely original prequel. It will reboot the universe, giving us a look at a young Willy Wonka and what made him the man he is when Charlie meets him.
There's always the risk with original stories based on books that they might just miss the point (here's looking at you Oz the Great and Powerful), but even if it's terrible we have the animated Charlie and the Chocolate Factory series coming from Netflix. Two different universe reboots gives us hope for at least one new Willy Wonka worth watching.
