10 Upcoming Movie Remakes That Will Piss Everyone Off
4. Wonka
This one has potential as it's directed by Paul King, the man behind the phenomenal Paddington films. However, there is a glaring issue with this film that will draw the ire of fans.
Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a beloved children's novel, the 1974 adaptation Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is as much of a classic in the world of film, and Tim Burton's 2005 adaptation... exists.
This new film, set for release in 2023, will see the journey of a young Wonka becoming the insane chocolate kingpin that we know today. The problem lay in that premise alone: it's adapting material from Burton's film, showing the story of how he became who he is.
There are certain characters in fiction where you don't need to know their backstory. The Joker was one (yet that worked), Han Solo was another (that didn't), and Willy Wonka is a third. And at least when Tim Burton tried, that failed miserably. We don't need to spoil classic characters by giving them overly detailed origins, and I feel audiences will certainly agree with me on this one.
