2. The Little Mermaid
Things started nicely with the Disney remakes didn't they? No I don't mean 101 Dalmatians, or Alice in Wonderland. I'm talking about the Jungle Book... not that weird remake in 1994...
Actually, let's be honest, 2016's Jungle Book was a one-hit wonder when it came out. Since then the live-action remake has been a black mark on Disney's record however much money it makes them. The Lion King is the nadir of this but it puts the fear of God into any true Disney fan when a new remake is announced, the next biggest one being The Little Mermaid.
Now there is a certain group of people that will just be unhappy that a woman of colour is playing Ariel, which is just petty. She's a mermaid, she can be whatever colour she wants to be. The biggest issue with the live action remakes is they're simply longer, more bloated versions of the animated counterparts while also removing a primary aspect of the story.
People are starting to see these shallow cash-grabs for what they are, but doubtless the general public will make it a box office success allowing Disney to make more of them.
