10 Upcoming Movie Sequels Delayed So Long We Stopped Caring

9. Night at the Museum 3 (5.5 years)

Night at the Museum 2Previous Release: Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, released May 2009. The Sequel: Night at the Museum 3, set for release Christmas Day 2014, 5 and a half years later. While Battle of the Smithsonian was a decline on the profits of the previous film, it still made a rock-solid $413 million against a $150 million budget, and given how it only took 2 and a half years to get that sequel released, it's surprising it's going to take over double that for the third film in the series to abound. Are people going to really be game for another go-around in 2014? Battle of the Smithsonian was already a pretty desperate venture, coasting on its superb visuals and fun set-pieces while featuring a plot that is virtually impossible to actually remember. The best they can hope for with Part 3 is to cram it with more talented actors wanting to show off their comic side, and just pump money into more gorgeous effects and thrilling action. Plus, a script that wasn't scrawled on a paper napkin this time wouldn't hurt.
