10 Upcoming Movie Sequels Nobody Wants

Do we really need another Jurassic World film?

All too often, originality seems like a lost art in the movie industry. If a new release isn't adapted from a novel or a comic book, it's usually either a reboot or a sequel. The latter isn't inherently a bad thing, but they can get a little tiresome when done for the wrong reasons.

Any kind of cinematic success will usually bring about a second outing, which is to be expected, but much of the time that magic just isn't recaptured. Then there are the legacy sequels that are clear cash grabs based on nostalgia alone, and that's just second outings in a franchise. Some just keep going and going and going.

Even when it seems as though returns to certain franchises would be the last thing anyone would want to see, they are still produced at a ridiculous rate. Whether they are attempts to rework a winning formula, or, as mentioned before, to try and cash in on nostalgia, the oversaturation of sequels in the industry has created something of a stigma around the concept.

No, they aren't all bad ideas, and some, though rare, even go on to be better than what came before. That likely won't be said about any of these ten films, though, all of which already have an uphill struggle in front of them. Nobody needs them.

The old adage that you can have too much of a good thing is all too often proven to be true, particularly when the exposure to said good thing is so over the top that you end up never wanting to see it or experience it again. Case and point in the film industry, the Minions.

Back in 2010 with the release of the original Despicable Me, Gru's army of little yellow men became unbelievably popular. They were everywhere - in the cinema, on every bit of merchandise you could imagine, mobile games, TV adverts, you name it. Wherever you looked, you'd see a Minion or three.

This was based off the fact that they were so loveable, and that they were easily the MVP of a movie starring Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig, which is really saying something. However, their appeal soon began to fade, and what was once cute jabbering soon became annoying and eventually intolerable.

After four Despicable Me films and two based around the Minions themselves, the last thing anyone needs to see is the aliens on screen a seventh time. Yet, this is exactly what is going to happen when a third Minions movie releases in June 2027.
