10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are Only Going To Disappoint You
8. Spiral
Virtually every horror franchise is subject to the law of diminishing returns, and Saw is no different, but the recently-delayed ninth installment is sure to get a bump at the box office due to the sheer curiosity factor that surrounds it.
Chris Rock takes a story credit, plays the lead role and serves as the executive producer of a Saw movie, which is a strange enough statement in itself even without the news that Samuel L. Jackson would be taking second billing. While that's a very unusual combination of talent to lead a low-budget horror sequel, the franchise hasn't exactly shown us enough that there's going to be any merit to it outside of the novelty factor of seeing big stars play in Jigsaw's universe.
The highest-rated of these movies is the very first one, and even that only holds a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 49%, with each subsequent follow-up just going through the motions, long after the torture porn fad had long reached its peak. There's hardly been a shred of originality about the Saw franchise in the first place, and after seven subpar follow-ups it seems unlikely that a couple of movie stars are going to suddenly reverse the trend.
