10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are Only Going To Disappoint You

Gladiator may have been a massive success and a hugely influential movie at the turn of the 21st Century, earning over $460m at the box office and winning five Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor, as well as launching a string of similarly-themed historical epics, but it hardly screamed 'franchise potential'.

The story was well and truly concluded by the time the credits rolled, but yet here we are 20 years later and talk of a follow-up still hasn't gone away, which is currently in development at Paramount with Ridley Scott returning to direct and Bad Boys For Life's Peter Craig on scripting duty.

The plot is rumored to follow an adult Lucius Verus, which could give Spencer Treat Clark the opportunity to become the go-to guy for reprising the roles he played as a child after doing so in Glass, but there's little reason to return to the world of Gladiator, even with the prolific Sir Ridley back behind the camera.

Audience interest in historical epics quickly waned, and just because Gladiator is the most famous of them, doesn't mean that a sequel has to be made, especially when two decades have passed. The only way a follow-up would be worth anyone's time is if they'd decided to make Nick Cave's famously batsh*t insane pitch.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
