10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are Really Reboots

2. Flatliners

Flatliners is one of the more blatant soft reboots on the way, considering that Kiefer Sutherland will reprise his role from the original 1990 cult thriller.

However, it's incredibly likely that Sutherland's involvement will extend to an extended cameo at best, and what's been shown off so far looks very much like a pretty routine attempt to rehash the original's delicious premise for a new generation.

Don't expect much in terms of surprises or major deviations from the original, just an uptick in digital effects and more contemporary technology and pop-culture references. Indeed, it's a reboot cynically posing as a sequel to try and maximise its potential audience.

Even the title is exactly the same: is any other proof really needed?
