It's undeniable that Mary Poppins Returns is going to lean on its nostalgic appeal, coming some 54 years after the original film, but Disney will also demand that it stands on its own for younger audiences and leaves room for a host of sequels should it be a hit.

In fairness, the movie will reunite audiences with not only the title character but also grown-up versions of Jane and Michael Banks from the original film, so this is best filed under the "rebootquel" category, as it'll certainly nod to more adventures to come with Emily Blunt's reimagining of the iconic character.
