9. Halloween

John Carpenter has referred to the upcoming Danny McBride-scripted Halloween as the "tenth sequel" in the series, though considering that it comes almost a decade after Rob Zombie's critically-panned reboot sequel Halloween II, it's clearly another reboot.

Even though the film is being mounted as a direct sequel to 1981's original Halloween II, it's likely going to have only a tangential link to it, considering the presumed lack of Jamie Lee Curtis and the clear desire from the studio for the film to stand on its own.

So no, it's not Halloween III, and even though it's jettisoning the continuity of all the other sequels, this ultimately won't matter much because the film is certainly going to be a spiritual follow-up above all else.
