8. Ocean's Eight

Ocean's Eight may exist in the same universe as the original heist trilogy, what with Sandra Bullock playing Danny Ocean's estranged sister Debbie and Matt Damon and Carl Reiner set to reprise their roles in cameo form, but for all intents and purposes, this is an all-female reboot of the franchise.

The nods to the prior movies are going to be mild fan-service at most, and the bulk of the story will instead aim to set up a new heist franchise. After all, there's a reason the film's called Ocean's Eight: it leaves room for Ocean's Nine and Ocean's Ten.

Warner Bros. is spinning the movie as a sequel/spin-off, but everything about it screams gender-swapped reboot, and it's probably going to be much more successful than the bungled recent attempt to give Ghostbusters the same treatment.
