10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Aren't What You Think

Fans sure have had a while to think about what might become of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, what with James Gunn's temporary firing and the many different directions it could go in post-Avengers: Endgame.

But between what James Gunn has hinted at so far and some very obvious deductions, it seems that the third Guardians film will be something quite distinct from what fans were initially led to believe.

If you were hoping for Asgardians of the Galaxy co-starring Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Gunn has rubbished claims that this is the working title, and with Hemsworth set to start in the just-confirmed Thor 4, he likely won't have time in his schedule to appear in both movies.

This also casts plenty of doubt on extensive rumours that Beta Ray Bill will appear in Vol. 3 and cross paths with Thor, because without the Asgardian, his inclusion wouldn't really make much sense.

And what about Adam Warlock, whose appearance was teased in one of Vol. 2's mid-credits scenes? Gunn further cooled fans' hopes by tweeting, "That is something that we have never confirmed. Who knows how long it will take him to bake in that cocoon."

While Thor and/or Adam Warlock joining the Guardians franchise both make a ton of sense, it seems far more probable that Vol. 3 will train a far greater focus on Rocket (Bradley Cooper), with Gunn claiming that the film will "finish" his arc.

Speculation is already running rampant about whether Vol. 3 will delve into Rocket's creation and possibly even introduce his otter girlfriend Lylla - with Lady Gaga's name being thrown around to play her - but either way, it seems like Rocket may end up Vol. 3's true protagonist.

As such, don't be surprised if Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) search for alternate Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is also put on the back-burner and left wide open for the future.

As ever, time will tell, but clearly Gunn isn't just resting on his laurels and aiming to deliver the most predictable and straight-forward threequel possible.
