Is there a cinematic reboot that has eclipsed what came before it quite like Dune? Denis Villeneuve adapted Frank Herbert's epic 1965 novel across two parts three decades after David Lynch, and though the latter has earned something of a cult status, there is no debate as to which is the better version.

Splitting the film across two parts allowed Villeneuve, coming off the back of another sci-fi masterpiece in Blade Runner 2049, to explore the Dune lore further, and that's without mentioning the visuals, which were absolutely second to none. Both parts have now released, but why stop there?

There are actually 26 novels across the Dune series, and Villeneuve has confirmed that he is currently "in writing mode" for the next in line, Dune: Messiah. This will pick up 12 years after the events of Dune: Part Two, and will, according to the director, finish Paul Atreides' arc.

With Dune: Prophecy currently being released episode by episode, fans may be satiated for a short time, however, the big screen return of Arrakis, the Kwisatz Haderach, and the sandworms can't come quick enough.
