10 Upcoming Movies Nobody Asked For
6. Until Dawn
2015's hit horror game Until Dawn was a blast to play, primarily because it was basically an interactive version of a schlocky supernatural horror flick. And so, eyebrows were raised earlier this year when Sony announced that David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Shazam!) would be directing a big-screen adaptation of the game.
Beyond the name branding of Until Dawn obviously carrying weight with gamers, it's just a bizarre project to adapt.
The entire appeal of Until Dawn was less its familiar, cliche-riddled story than its interactivity, of getting to decide how the story plays out with friends. Take that away and you're left with a movie that's most likely going to be a hackneyed trope-fest, because why wouldn't it be?
Until Dawn is close to a playable movie as it is, and with a glossy remake set to release later this year, it makes the prospect of a film adaptation seem even more pointless. Put it this way, the game would be decidedly less enjoyable if the player were merely a passive observer. Go figure.
