It seemed like the world collectively agreed that they were done with the Scary Movie franchise after the fifth film came and went without much fanfare in 2013, but it was recently confirmed that a sixth movie is currently in development, with the intent to release next year.
There's no denying that the parody genre is basically dead and buried at this point, in large part because the awful glut of Friedberg and Seltzer films (Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, and so on) made everyone tired of it. And beyond that, social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok have made it easier than ever for talented comedians to post decidedly smarter bite-sized movie parodies online for people to watch for free.
By the time a new parody movie can be produced and released, the jokes have already been made online by thousands. As such, you have to wonder who the audience even is for a new Scary Movie, especially if neither Anna Faris nor Regina Hall are involved. On the plus side, there's almost zero chance it's worse than Scary Movie V.
