10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed
9. How to Train Your Dragon

Even accepting that the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon will likely benefit from the animated trilogy's director, Dean DeBlois, returning to helm this new take, there seems to be a pronounced air among fans of "Why bother?"
The trailers for the new How to Train Your Dragon certainly look extremely faithful to the source material, enough in fact that it only further invites debate about its own necessity.
The framing and dialogue in numerous scenes appears to be basically identical to its animated counterpart, and while one can argue that it'd be foolish to mess with a prior success, at which point does faithfulness lurch into cynicism? Why even bother watching this one when the beloved original exists and, per its animated nature, can reach a heightened, expressionistic note that the live-action one will struggle to?
Between the copy-paste nature of its production and the fact that Universal likely greenlit the remake largely to promote the How to Train Your Dragon-themed land at their soon-to-open Universal Epic Universe theme park, it's tough to view this as anything more than an exercise in brand reinforcement.
