10 Upcoming Movies That Aren't What You Think

6. It's Not A Reboot - Scream

In this case, the studio really has only themselves to blame for causing any confusion.

The upcoming, already-wrapped fifth Scream film is due for release early next year, and will simply be titled "Scream."

Given that it shares the same title as the original 1996 movie, to many fans the implication seems to be clear, that it will be a franchise reboot.

But with the series' penchant for genre satire and the original three cast members set to return, it would presumably be a "soft-reboot" at best, ushering out David Arquette, Neve Campbell, and Courteney Cox while transitioning in a newer, younger cast, not unlike the recent trilogy of Star Wars films.

Except, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett recently confirmed that this isn't the movie's angle at all, and despite its mystifying title, it will indeed be a direct sequel rather than a conceited bait-and-switch reboot intended to milk the franchise's good name.

It's just as well, because a movie making fun of reboots while pulling the same cynical trick itself would get ruthlessly torn apart by the series' passionate fans.
