10 Upcoming Movies That Could Massively Overperform At The Box Office
6. Child's Play
At the moment, it's looking like this one could go either way.
On one hand, MGM's Child's Play reboot is one that nobody really asked for and the redesign of Chucky has gone down mixed. On the other, the trailers have been wisely sparing in that they have maintained a sense of mystery when it comes to Chucky himself and, well, anything that features Mark Hamill voicing a murderous doll has to be worth seeing.
One thing that certainly works in its favour is its genre. Not only is horror a somewhat less-crowded field, nostalgia horror is really "in" at the moment with properties such as It and Halloween exceeding expectations in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
As far as Child's Play goes, it has a better chance of emulating the latter - especially if it receives positive reviews. The fact that It duo Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are producing certainly won't hurt it either.
On paper, going up against Toy Story 4 could work against it but, given that they are two completely different genres, Child's Play should survive. If anything, this may work in its favour as it could end up being the adults' alternative during that weekend.
Although it will likely get undercut in its second week by Annabelle Comes Home, if it can successfully capitalise on the nostalgia factor (much like the Halloween reboot) it stands a real chance of not just proving the naysayers wrong but leaving them in the dust entirely.
