10 Upcoming Movies That Could Score 100% On Rotten Tomatoes
7. The Martian
The Martian, based on the novel by Andy Weir (which became an unexpected bestseller last year despite being released as far back as 2008), clings to an irresistible premise: an astronaut is left stranded on Mars after a mission gone wrong. Can he utilise what little resources he has left into order to survive the long years it will take for a team to return to pick him up? Directed by visual master Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon as the unfortunate hero of the title, Mark Watney, The Martian looks to have everything it needs to become a perfectly-rendered thriller of the sci-fi kind. If the source material is treated with respect - that's to say, the scientific aspects are adhered to throughout - then there's really not a lot that could go wrong. After all, Matt Damon will likely prove more than capable in what is - essentially - a very difficult role. But with backup from Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Donald Glover, Kate Mara, Sean Bean and Chiwetel Ejiofor (seriously: what a cast, huh?), The Martian looks primed for some 100% certified glory.
