10 Upcoming Movies That Have Already Ignored Massive Mistakes

5. Thor Doesn't Work As A Solo Concern - Thor: Ragnarok

The Lesson: Thor - The Dark World Thor is an integral part of the Avengers universe, he offers balance to the poe-faced seriousness of Captain America and Tony Stark and he makes an over-commitment to realism impossible, which is whole-heartedly a positive thing. Unfortunately though, he's not that much of a draw on his own: the first movie worked because Kenneth Branagh played up the theatricality, and Earth was a primary setting rather than a holiday. The sequel however was a step too far: the good details had already been plundered and we were faced with a Flash Gordon-alike sci-fi fantasy that was too silly by half, and poorly written to say the least. It's not that Thor is a bad character per se, he's just hard to relate to, and there's far more pleasure in watching him clash with alien cultures on Earth than there is in him defending Asgard from civil war (as is set to happen in Ragnarok).
