10 Upcoming Movies That Have Already Ignored Massive Mistakes

6. A Trilogy For Vanity's Sake - Avatar

The Lesson: Star Wars Does anyone really need any more Avatar films? Yes, Fern Gully got a sequel, so there's precedent for the EXACT same story to work twice, but it was awful and unnecessary, and it didn't give James Cameron a reason to over-bloat everything ten times over, as the Avatar sequel trilogy does. The original Star Wars didn't need a prequel trilogy particularly, but the idea endured because of the unrelenting force of the Force: it wasn't even a bad idea really, it just shouldn't ever have been tolerated as a vanity project for Lucas. Unable to make other films, Lucas fell back on his favourite play thing, and engineered a position for himself where he was accountable to no-one and his ego ran wild. The rest was Jar Jar Binks. Sadly for Avatar fans, that's the exact same position that Cameron has now made for himself, and the very idea of a trilogy from the outset smacks of misplaced egotism.
