10 Upcoming Movies That Have Already Pissed Everyone Off

8. Artemis Fowl

Charlies Angels
Disney

The Artemis Fowl book series is a favorite to many who grew up in the early 2000s and follows the adventures of a young ne'er-do-well, Artemis Fowl II who is trying to find out what happened to his father. The Fowls are criminal masterminds, by trade, so there's a decidedly anti-hero vibe to things. In the first and second books, which the movie appears to be based on, Artemis Jr. plans to kidnap a fairy to restore his family fortune and aims to rescue his kidnapped father.

That being said many fans are upset at changes the film has made, including the likelihood of changing the entire plot to make the fairies responsible for Artemis Sr.'s disappearance, instead of the Russian Mafia. But what seems to be frothing them up even more is the fact that one of the characters, Commander Julius Root, of the fairy police force LEPrecon (short for Lower Elements Police Recon) has been changed into a female character.

Aside from the usual incel uproar that changing a male character to female usually creates, this alteration has upset even feminist fans. One of the other main characters, Holly Short - the LEPrecon agent that Artemis Jr. kidnaps, had a major plot point revolve around her being the first female police agent. But if Root, played by Dame Judi Dench, is already a woman and a Commander - then Holly's not so special. Some more complaints about Holly are that they've made her closer to Artemis' age, rather than an adult - further altering her place in the story line.
