With the exception of a few, comic book movie characters are always getting rebooted and recast. Some surprisingly rapidly, with Peter Parker having three different iterations between 2007 and 2016, and there being no less than four Batmen to appear over the last year, with yet another one set to debut with The Brave and the Bold.

Unfortunately, Hellboy will soon join this list. After Ron Perlman's popular take on the character, the franchise was rebooted with David Harbour in 2019. This movie was received infamously badly, so much so that there is already a new version of the character on the way.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man will be bringing a younger version of Big Red to the screen with actor Jack Kesy, but unfortunately the project looks to have been judged before ever releasing. After Neil Marshall's critical and commercial miss, it stands to reason that fewer and fewer movie fans wants to see another Hellboy right now.

Arguably the only thing that could save the character's live-action fate right now would be a third movie to cap off Guillermo del Toro's story. However, with this new reboot coming, and the fact GDT wants to move exclusively to animation in the near future, certain fans' frustrations will continue to be taken out on The Crooked Man.
