Joe Wright's (Atonement, Darkest Hour) adaptation of A. J. Finn's 2018 thriller novel The Woman in the Window - starring Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Julianne Moore - has had a troubled journey to our eyeballs, to say the least.

The film wrapped principal photography all the way back in October 2018, but following a series of disastrous test screenings, Tony Gilroy was brought in to rewrite the script and helm reshoots, just as he did for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

After several release date shifts word began to spread that Netflix was in talks to acquire the film, as was eventually confirmed to be true with a May 14 release date now set in stone.

But a recent report indicates that test screenings of the new cut of the movie scored more-or-less the same, seeming to suggest that 20th Century Studios has effectively offloaded a turkey to Netflix here.

While the impact of the pandemic cannot be discounted, and countless great films have test-screened poorly due to their ambitious feats of filmmaking, it's definitely sensible to expect mediocrity at best from this.
