10 Upcoming Movies With Actors Like You’ve Never Seen Them Before
2. Sebastian Stan - A Different Man
For all the times we hear the press dub an actor "unrecognisable" in a new role, there's basically zero chance you'd realise this was Sebastian Stan underneath a pile of makeup for his new movie A Different Man.
Stan plays a man with neurofibromatosis named Edward, who undergoes facial reconstructive surgery and becomes obsessed with an actor who stars as him in a play based on his own life.
Stan naturally underwent a stark transformation by way of facial prosthetics produced by Mike Marino, who previously transformed Colin Farrell into The Penguin for The Batman.
It's an undeniably far cry from Stan's conventional movie star looks, though given that writer-director Aaron Schimberg's previous film Chained for Life dealt with similar subject matter and was lauded for its compassion, it's reasonable to expect a similar throughline here.
While one's knee-jerk reaction might be to wonder why an actor with neurofibromatosis wasn't simply cast in the role, given that Edward has surgery at some point in the film, the prosthetic approach makes total sense.
It's a transformation so radical it makes his recent performance as Tommy Lee on Pam & Tommy seem like a quick game of dress-up.
