South Park co-creator Trey Parker has never been one to avoid pushing buttons, and his untitled upcoming comedy is clearly designed to do just that.

The film follows a young Black man who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum when he discovers that his white girlfriend's ancestors once owned his own.

Though concrete details beyond this are thin on the ground - such as who will actually be starring in it - Kendrick Lamar has been spotted shooting scenes for the film in addition to serving as a producer. Also, rumours suggest the comedy will be a musical, which given Trey and producer Matt Stone's prior works isn't terribly surprising.

Considering the duo's prior successes using the musical form to explore myriad tricky subjects, they've got a better chance than most of making such a thorny, unwieldy concept work. Success or failure, though, a musical comedy about slavery in 2025 is going to be one hell of a spectacle alright.
