Because starring in Amazon's hit superhero series The Boys apparently isn't enough insanity for Jack Quaid, he'll soon be leading the bonkers action-thriller Novocaine.
Quaid plays a sheltered bank executive by the name of Nathan Caine, who suffers from a rare disorder, congenital insensitivity to pain (CIP), which makes him unable to feel physical pain. And so, when Nathan's girlfriend (Amber Midthunder) is taken hostage in a bank robbery, he springs into action, using his imperviousness to pain to his advantage as he attempts to rescue his girl.
That's certainly one hell of a way to elevate the typical "nerd becomes unlikely action hero" premise, with the trailer making it clear that the film's deranged comedic throughline will revolve around all the horrible injuries Nathan suffers without feeling a single pang of pain.
And of course, there's the insane wrinkle that just because you can't feel pain, it doesn't mean you aren't suffering seriously debilitating, life-threatening injuries, which the film will hopefully explore.
