10 Upcoming Movies With Troubled Productions

1. New Mutants

New Mutants Mirage
Fox

The New Mutants is far from the biggest or most anticipated movie on this list, but there is no film that has had nearly the trouble making it to the big screen. The Comic-Horror film is currently on its third delay and is now set for an April 2020 release, more than two years removed from the original date.

Similar to its fellow Fox production Dark Phoenix, The New Mutants have been stalled by time-consuming and costly reshoots. The first round came two months before the March 2018 release, as Director Josh Boone aimed to make the movie scarier. This seems to have produced a snowball effect as reshoots led to more reshoots with as much as half the film needing to be remade.

Boone's interest in making a more horrifying experience reportedly stemmed from viewer reactions to the trailer in which the horror elements were featured heavily. Listening to your audience isn't necessarily a bad thing, but leaning too much into the trailer's reception has backfired in the past.

Look no further than Suicide Squad, which allowed Trailer Park, the firm responsible for its trailer, to edit the movie. Fox didn't go to that ridiculous extreme, but should took the lesson on overreaction.

With so many extensive reshoots The New Mutants may feel choppy and forced. With so many delays and so little faith, this movie may have already overstayed its welcome.
